Will Jobs Be a Focus of DNC? Financial Expert Dan Celia Says Companies Have No More Room for Layoffs

National Radio and Television Host to Talk About the Economy During Fox Business Channel’s ‘Cavuto: Coast to Coast’ Live Today from Philadelphia and the Democratic National Convention

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Democratic National Convention was off to a bumpy start yesterday in Philadelphia, and how the week progresses will be a strong indication of the shape the November election may take as well.

Financial expert and national television and radio host Dan Celia, who watched the Republican National Convention closely last week for talk about the economy, says that jobs, employment and the regrowth of the middle class must be a focus for those who want to be the next American President.

“Jobs simply have to be a focus of these conventions and the months leading up to the election,” Celia said. “Companies have no more room for layoffs. But this week, we will continue to see Democrats, officials in the Department of Labor and the liberal media taking victory laps over the fact that since February 28, 2015, the unemployment first-time claims are below 300,000. This certainly won’t make news this week because of the DNC, but what this does confirm is that we’ve reached a critical mass in corporate America. We can take this average rate back to the 1970s, along with the labor participation rate from 1978, and the real story is that companies are limping along with as minimal a staff and as few workers as possible. Every company, large and small, reaches a point where the option of letting more people go is an impossibility if they want to continue to simply survive in this low-demand environment. But, unfortunately, no one seems to want to read between the lines about what is really happening with businesses of all sizes in America.

“There will be many, I assume,” Celia continued, “that will take this as good news, but, in my opinion, it would only be good news if we had at least a 2007 labor participation rate. The conversation this week will be in and around the Federal Reserve raising rates, but even the Federal Reserve—without overtly stating it—has indicated that there is far too much slack in the labor rate. We can ask ourselves, how does that happen with a 5 percent unemployment rate?”

This afternoon, Celia will talk about the economy live from the DNC at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia during “Cavuto: Coast to Coast.” Last month, Celia was also in attendance at the exclusive Donald Trump meeting with evangelical leaders in New York City.
